Located
in the southern part of Jiangsu province,the most prosperous region
in the Yangtze River Delta,Changzhou lies between the two metropolitan
cities of Shanghai and Nanjing,It is about 163 kilometers to Shanghai
and 103 kilometers to Nangjing. Changzhou is a growing modern industrial
city as well as an ancient cultural city with a history of more than
2500 years. Changzhou Municipality has two junior cities-Jintan, Liyang
and five urban districts under its jurisdiction. It covers a total
area of 4,375 square kilometers and a population of 3.42 million.
Bordering on the Yangtze River in the
north, Changzhou enjoys a favorable geographical location and transportation
network. The Grand Canal, Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Shanghai- Nanjing
Expressway pass through the city. Changzhou Civil Airport links the
city with more than 20 major domestic cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou,
Shenzhen and Xiamen etc. Changzhou Port of the Yangtze River with
the capacity of 10,000 DWT is the first class ocean-going port in
China and can reach almost all of the other countries and regions
in the world. On the sound industrial base,
a complete industrial system has been formed. There are over 20,000
industrial enterprises in Changzhou including mechanics, metallurgy,
electronics, textile, garments, chemicals, pharmaceutical, plastic,
building material and foodstuff, among which six of them are dominant,
that is, power industry, engineering machinery, automobile, motorcycle
and fitting, power transmission equipment, electronics, new-type textile
and garment. At present, new pillar industries and Hi-Tech enterprises
contribute 50% or more of the whole industrial economy in the city.
The international-market oriented economy
in Changzhou develops very fast. Up to now, there are more than 3,000
foreign invested companies in which over 2,000 are export-oriented
enterprises.20 categories of 2,500 products sell well to 180 countries
and regions in the world. Changzhou
boasts its excellent education and rich human resources in the development
of Hi-Tech industry. There are 13 tertiary institutions and 200,000
specialized personnel in various fields. |
